Billy Donovan, the new Chicago Bulls Coach (thank god) — Tyler Westhause

I wake up today filled with optimism for the Chicago Bulls. Not because I believe we’re championship contenders. I don’t even think we’re playoff contenders. The reason for my optimism comes from the state of our franchise, and the effectiveness of our rebuild.

Reshaping the front office cannot be underappreciate, or under-valued. The rigid structure of the old GarPax-era doomed the Bulls for numerous seasons. The way the handled the decline of Derrick Rose was embaressing. The way they built the team around joke coaches like Egg-Man was depressing.

But the arrival of Billy Donovan fills me with eagerness. I’m excited to see how he can develop these young prospects. I’m more that hopeful that he can unlock the all-star potential of Lauri Markkanen and Zach Lavine. I wish we were in the spot to jump into the playoff picture, but in all likelyhood, we’re a few years out.

I can wait :)
